API-FIRST VIDEO PLATFORM

About OllaNode

Platform Brief

OllaNode delivers…

  • Video pipeline: Dynamic HLS ladders (360p→4K), thumbnail sprites & Whisper transcripts.
  • Edge CDN & storage: Multi-tenant pull zones on OpenResty edge, S3 storage, and Hickory DNS.
  • Edge isolates: Fast V8 isolate compute with sub-millisecond cold starts.

OllaNode eliminates…

  • Per-minute metering: No encoding taxes, speech transcription meters, or egress markups.
  • Origin leakage: Edge playback proxies rewrite URIs so your storage origin is never leaked.
  • Proprietary silos: 100% permissive open source (Apache-2.0, zero AGPL code).

1. Clean Architecture & Rust Engine

Structured as a modular Cargo workspace built in Rust (Axum) with 11 library crates and 9 independently-deployable services:

  • Worker Engine: NATS JetStream by default; optional Temporal activity layer.
  • Permissive OSS: Licensed under Apache-2.0 with strictly permissive dependencies.
  • Hardware: Run on any standard Linux VPS with ≥ 8 vCPU and 16 GB RAM.

2. Modular Product Surfaces Behind One REST API

Access video, storage, DNS, edge compute, and AI agent tooling through a unified self-hosted control plane:

Video Pipeline

Adaptive HLS (360p→4K), NVENC acceleration, MP4/MP3 packaging & AES-128 encryption.

Private Playback

Expiring signed tokens, origin-shield proxying, cookie-scoped CDN segments & embed player.

Thumbnails & ASR

Storyboard sprites, sampled frames, and word-level Whisper transcripts with chapters.

Voice Engine

Text translation, natural TTS, and speech-to-text inference with zero per-character metering.

Edge CDN

Multi-tenant pull zones on OpenResty edge with instant cache purge and token signing.

Storage & Optimizer

S3-compatible storage zones with presigned uploads and on-the-fly image resizing via imgproxy.

Authoritative DNS

Hickory authoritative DNS serving zones and records (A/AAAA/CNAME/TXT) directly from Postgres.

Edge Functions

JavaScript/TypeScript edge compute executed in lightweight V8 isolates with zero cold-start delay.

AI Governance

Model Context Protocol (MCP) server, approval-gated actions, and tamper-evident audit logs.

Security & WAF

Coraza + OWASP CRS WAF, origin shielding, idempotency protection, and fine-grained rate limits.

3. Private Origin Playback & Edge Runtime

Zero origin leakage: Video bytes are never served directly from storage. The playback service rewrites HLS manifest URIs so your storage bucket credentials and endpoints are never exposed.

  • Pull Zones: Routed by Host header with instantaneous cache purges.
  • Storage Zones: Standard S3-compatible endpoints with integrated image optimization.
  • DNS & Edge: Postgres-backed Hickory DNS records and zero-overhead V8 edge isolates.

4. Ownership-First Pricing

No per-minute fees or egress markups. You bring the compute — we bring the platform.

5. What It Is — And What It Isn't

Direct answers to common architecture and capability questions:

Is there live streaming?

No — OllaNode is an on-demand VOD pipeline only. There is currently no RTMP or live ingest.

HLS or DASH?

HLS today. Segments are formatted in CMAF/fMP4, which is DASH-ready for the upcoming manifest update.

How does pricing work?

The software is free and open source. There are no metering systems; your only expense is your own cloud compute and storage.

What is off by default?

AI diarization, NVENC hardware transcoding, and AV1 encode tiers are fully functional but config-gated and disabled by default.

How is it licensed?

Apache-2.0, with strictly permissive dependencies (no AGPL code) — SeaweedFS, imgproxy, tusd, and Coraza.

Where is the API documented?

Machine-readable OpenAPI 3.1 specification at GET /openapi.json, with full Model Context Protocol (MCP) server support.
